App that’s helped thousands of Essex mums praised at national awards
A pregnancy app used by over 5,000 mums-to-be in Essex has been highly commended at a national awards ceremony.
The Maternity Direct app, developed for use by women under care at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, gives pregnant women with non-urgent queries easy access to remotely chat with midwives.
It’s just been highly commended in the category of Workforce Innovation at the Health Service Journal Partnership Awards 2021.
The team behind the app, midwives at the Trust and partners Acadiant and The Maternity Voices Partnership, were recognised by judges for “their ambition, visionary spirit and the demonstrable positive impact that their project has had on expectant mothers”.
Maternity Direct has proved especially helpful during Covid, with mums praising the helpful app and highlighted how it has been a vital service during the pandemic.
Laura Bennett, women's health matron, said: “We are delighted to have been highly commended for this award. The app has made a huge positive difference to pregnant women and it’s a great for its success to be recognised, firstly by the women that use it, and in front of our peers at a national awards ceremony.”
