Award win highlights innovation in pathology and improved patient care

The Trust’s Pathology IT team have won the Health Tech Team of the Year award at the HTN Now Awards.
The win recognises their efforts in improving pathology services through digital innovation.
Backed by £20 million in external funding, the team transformed the region’s outdated and fragmented pathology systems, creating a seamless, more efficient process for requesting tests and receiving results.
The team’s digital champions helped staff across the Trust’s hospitals and GP practices transition to a new digital system for requesting and reviewing pathology tests, with 4,500 people trained to use it.
Pathology tests are now requested electronically, meaning paper forms are no longer needed and the risk of errors is reduced. Standardising the way tests are carried out and reported means patients receive faster and more reliable diagnosis, improving the overall quality of care.
Dr Faisal Bin-Reza, Clinical Director of Pathology, said: “We are thrilled to have won this award. Our team’s commitment to innovation has had a direct and positive impact on patient care by improving efficiency and reducing delays in test processing.”
The team's achievements have gained national recognition, securing additional NHSE funding, and earning high commendation from The Royal College of Pathologists.
