Baby unit recognised for ‘passionate’ parent support
A national charity has given Broomfield Hospital’s Neonatal unit (NNU) a gold award for its excellent standards of care for families of premature or sick babies.
The unit received the Bliss Baby Charter Gold Accreditation, giving parents and carers peace of mind that they are receiving the best support possible.
The accreditation praised the unit as being “led by a strong, well respected and extremely dedicated Ward Manager” and that “staff are clearly passionate about Family Integrated Care. Feedback from parents was extremely positive, especially about the support they received.”
That was echoed by Tamzin James, from Chelmsford, mum of baby Millie, who was born 12 weeks early. She said: “Having Millie so early came as a total shock, but the care and support from the unit staff has helped us to grow in confidence as parents and to plan for when we will finally get to take Millie home.
“What could have been a negative experience has become something very positive, and that’s thanks to the help and support of the staff on the unit.”
Jackie Kane, Ward Manager Broomfield NNU, Bliss Charter Lead, said: “We began the Bliss Accreditation process in 2021, with our initial ‘pledge of improvement’ and are incredibly proud to achieve Gold Accreditation, just three years later. Throughout the accreditation journey, our commitment and passion to provide the best possible care for our patients and families has only grown stronger.”
The Broomfield NNU team now have their sights set on achieving Platinum Accreditation.
