Dr Tayyab Haider MBE, the medical director at Basildon Hospital, has been shortlisted for an award in the British Muslim Awards 2022.

He’s one of 300 of the most remarkable British Muslims shortlisted, and the awards – now in their ninth year - exist to recognise a wide range of achievements from inspiring individuals in business, charity, sport, arts, culture, religious advocacy, education and medicine.

It’s in this last category that Dr Haider has been recognised. He said: “It is humbling to be nominated in these awards for my part in the response to Covid-19.

“It’s recognition not just for me, but for the extraordinary hard work of the staff at Basildon Hospital, and across Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, while responding to the pandemic.

“I hope it inspires doctors developing their careers. I am so fortunate to work in a great team, enjoy a career in medicine and be in a position to influence the profession and shine a positive spotlight on Muslims across the UK.”

The winners will be revealed at a ceremony on February 24 at the British Muslim Heritage Centre in Manchester.
