Breast Reconstruction Awareness fundraiser lunch raises £1,500
Over 100 members and supporters of Broomfield Hospital’s Breast Reconstruction Awareness support group (BRA) came together for their annual festive lunch, helping to raise £1,500.
The funds raised for BRA play a crucial role in helping women before and after breast reconstruction surgery. They help provide additional materials, activities, and care packages for people navigating their breast cancer journey.
Held at the beautifully decorated Essex Barn at Channels Estate, Chelmsford, guests enjoyed a two-course meal while contributing to a cause close to their hearts.
The highlight of the afternoon was hearing from Nikki McCarthy, the founder and chairperson of PICC Pals, a group of dedicated volunteer sewists who come together to create Picc Line covers. They support patients undergoing long-term treatment, providing them with small but meaningful comfort during their care.
Lucy Thomas-Clayton, Director of Charities and Voluntary Services at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: “BRA’s annual fundraiser is more than just a festive gathering; it’s a powerful reminder of the strength of community and the difference we can make together. The lunch’s success builds on the momentum of last year’s event, which led to a £2,000 charitable grant from Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity for the Breast Friends support group.
“These funds have been instrumental in providing Broomfield Hospital patients with post-surgery and menopause packs, tailored to offer relief and help during treatment and recovery.”
