Charity ball raises over £20,000 for Southend Hospital radiotherapy appeal
Almost 200 people helped raise £20,000 at the weekend for the Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal, thanks to a stunning charity ball held at The Boundary, Garons Park.
Many of the Spotlight Appeal supporters attending know only too well how improvements in radiotherapy will benefit oncology patients across mid and south Essex.
Chairwoman of Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation, Emma Wynne-Morgan, said: “Seeing how much our local hospital means to our community never fails to amaze me. We are so thankful to our supporters for continuing to go above and beyond to bring benefits to the patients and families of Southend Hospital.”
“I am extremely proud to be leading my first, and the Foundation’s tenth charity appeal. The ball was such a success, not only in providing wonderful food and entertainment to our guests but most importantly in raising such a fantastic sum of money to benefit the Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal. We are now even closer to our £600,000 target to bring incredible improvement to cancer patients across Essex.
To date, Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation’s Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal has raised £270,000 of the £600,000 total – which it is hoping to achieve by 2025 – meaning Southend Hospital will have four cutting-edge Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT) positioning devices.
SGRT provides dramatically improved set-up and motion management during radiotherapy, eliminates the need for full-face shell masks and permanent tattoo markings, and most importantly deliver greater accuracy in the delivery of treatment.
