Winter Olympics star, Dr Elsa Desmond from Southend Hospital, was welcomed back to work after competing in the luge in Beijing.

Cupcakes in the colours of the Irish flag and a bunch of flowers were given to the newly qualified doctor upon her return to caring for patients on Windsor Ward. She was back at work after becoming the first person ever to qualify and compete in the event for Ireland.

Presenting Elsa with flowers was Dr David Walker, chief medical officer for Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
