Drop-in event for local residents to learn about Braintree Community Diagnostic Centre

Braintree CDC

A drop in event on 20 July has been organised at Braintree Town Hall to share plans with the public about the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) being built at the St Michael’s Hospital site in Braintree.

Residents will be able to drop-in to the event organised by Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust to get information on the project and speak to health and care representatives regarding the services the centre will offer. There will also be an opportunity to find out more about health and care services generally in mid and south Essex, with local health and care partners joining the event.

Qaiser Malik, Clinical Director and Consultant Radiologist at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Work has already started to deliver this centre in Braintree on behalf of the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System. This is one of three centres to receive funding in the wider mid and south Essex area. The CDC programme is part of a national initiative to provide better and faster access to diagnostic tests and therefore improve health outcomes.”

The centres are part of a national initiative to support increased diagnoses and access to tests and scans closer to home. The Braintree CDC is expected to open in summer 2024 and will offer a range of tests including, CT scans, blood tests, ultrasound, MRI scans, and heart and lung tests to the local community. It will support all non-emergency diagnostics.

Dan Doherty, Mid Essex Alliance Director for the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (MSEICS), said: “This drop-in is a great opportunity for people living in and around Braintree to hear more about NHS plans for their area. Bringing high-quality NHS services closer to people’s homes is a key goal for us.

“This new centre will be great news for local residents as it will mean less need for trips to acute hospitals for x-rays, MRI scans and a range of other appointments. We look forward to seeing you there!”

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is working together with the MSEICS to lead the programme. The MSEICS has a broader estates programme focused on enhancing and expanding these facilities for the benefit of the community.
