Healthcare app improving patient care reaches finals for two national awards

An app that helps hospital staff to access and share vital information, supporting quality patient care, and could save them up to 55,000 hours of time, has reached the finals of a national award.
The MyStaff app has been shortlisted for two Health Service Journal (HSJ) Digital Awards in the categories of Improving Back-Office Efficiencies through Digital and Enhancing Workforce Engagement, Productivity and Wellbeing through Digital.
It works by allowing staff to access policies, procedures and care guidelines in one convenient place on mobile devices or PCs at the Trust, with more than 14,000 staff - 95% of them - regularly using the AI-driven platform.
This makes it quicker for clinicians to search for the latest guidance to help their patients, with projections show that the app could release 55,000 hours’ worth of time over three years - time that can be spent instead on patient-facing care.
The app also lets staff send patient information leaflets directly to patients using a QR code or by email and the team aims to reduce the Trust’s carbon footprint by moving from a paper heavy to a paperless process.
Sarah Wellings, Document Control Manager at the Trust, said: “We’re using the power of digital platforms, like the MyStaff app, as part of our digital evolution at the Trust. It’s improving the way we work, how we communicate and access information across multiple hospital sites in an efficient way.
“The financial pressures across the whole of the NHS demands that we rethink how we deliver healthcare. Across our hospital sites at Basildon, Broomfield and Southend we are improving patient outcomes by using cutting-edge AI, whilst at the same time enhancing efficiency and savings across services.”
The successful collaboration between the Trust and Diligram continues to attract national attention in healthcare awards, with it previously being shortlisted for two HSJ Partnership & Independent Healthcare Providers Awards and reached the final of the Nursing Times Workforce Awards.
Winners will be announced in June, at the ICC in Birmingham.
