Heart equipment that will help future patients is Jim’s legacy
The wife of a former patient, who received excellent care at Basildon Hospital, has donated almost £10,000 of equipment in his memory.
Two new cardiograph machines, which are used to help monitor the heart and identify heart problems, have been donated to the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC).
They were bought by Sue McAree and the Just Giving fund she set up in memory of her husband, Jim, who passed away in 2019. Jim, from St Osyth, had been a much-loved first responder in the area for 18 years. He had heart surgery in the CTC at Basildon Hospital in March 2019, but passed away six weeks later.
Sue wanted to give something back to the CTC for the excellent care Jim received. Jim knew a lot of people from our area that were using the CTC and this donation feeds back into the care that he gave our community.
“It’s his legacy of care, and is also our way of saying a huge thank you to the amazing and dedicated team at the CTC who look after patients.”
The new machines, which are already in use, make it easier to treat patients and quicker to get a diagnosis as they are smaller in size, so can be placed next to a patient’s bed.
Gill Adams, matron of critical care at the CTC, said: “Colne Ward team are so very grateful as these machines will help save lives, ensuring we can have a more rapid response to patients suffering from heart problems. Many thanks from the whole nursing team, as well as future patients who will benefit from this kind donation.”
