Hospital staff ‘shine’ at awards evening on the 75th birthday of the NHS
A glittering awards evening celebrating the great and the good of hospital staff, there couldn’t have been a more perfect date for it than on the 75th birthday of the NHS.
And what an event to remember, it all took place in a giant marquee on the site of Broomfield Hospital, one of the three main hospital sites of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, whose staff were being celebrated.
Now in its third year, the Shine Awards - the official awards ceremony of the Trust, one of the largest in the country - shone a light on the achievements of dedicated frontline and behind the scenes staff from across Basildon, Broomfield and Southend hospitals, as well as its satellite sites. Each day staff strive to improve patient care and the lives of their colleagues.
Many would say they were just doing their jobs, but all deserved to be on that shortlist of 27 finalists across award nine categories that were handed out on the evening in front of 150 fellow-staff members, stakeholders and members of the Trust’s executive team.
Speaking at the event, Hannah Coffey, Acting Chief Executive, said: “This year’s awards are particularly poignant as they take place on the same day the NHS celebrates its 75th anniversary. We have such an amazing and talented workforce, it’s a privilege to celebrate the achievements of staff and their tireless dedication to patient care.”
Nigel Beverley, Trust Chair, said: “It’s so inspiring to hear the many stories about the work of our staff and the difference they are making to the thousands of people who use our services every day. Events like this are so important to recognise and celebrate the fantastic achievements of our staff who are literally saving lives every day.”
Finalists were chosen from over 400 nominations submitted by staff, who were then reviewed by a panel of judges, including patients, before the final 27 were decided upon. The event was kindly sponsored by consulting and technology services company, Cloud 21.
There was also a surprise extra tenth award, the Chief Executive Award, which was handed to a surprised Kelly McGovern, Director of Nursing and Deputy Chief Nursing Officer.
