Hospital team awarded for their support to the LGBTQ+ community
Patients, staff and visitors have a safe place to be their true selves at hospitals thanks to the work of the equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) team.
The team have now been given a monthly Values Award for the positive changes they have helped bring across Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
Earlier this year the Trust was given a silver award by Stonewall, which highlights its support for lesbian, gay, bi, trans and queer people. Since then there have also been new inclusive policies, training for staff and Pride picnic events - all things that have improved the experience for members of the LGBTQ+ community.
This was all made possible thanks to the continued dedication of the EDI team, its head of inclusion of engagement, Rob Brunger, said. “I’m so thankful for all that my team has achieved, especially during a pandemic. I hope that the impact will be realised for years to come, and we are viewed as a model employer for inclusivity.
“The impact of being recognised by Stonewall means that staff and patients have felt more included, and that they are championed as individuals and proud of who they are. And we are very proud to receive this Values Award.”
The monthly staff awards honour teams and individuals showcasing the Trust’s values of being Excellent, Compassionate and Respectful.
