Hospital team presented with regional award at Westminster
Hospital staff who help treat the sickest patients have been presented with an award to recognise their work.
The resuscitation team from Broomfield Hospital were given the NHS Parliamentary Award for Excellence in Urgent and Emergency Care for the East of England.
The department, also known as the trigger response team, help to teach their colleagues resuscitation and basic life support skills. Their innovative programme, which includes simulating resuscitation scenarios, meant that staff could still be trained during Covid-19.
Nominees are put forward for the awards by local MPs, and the trigger response team were suggested by John Whittingdale OBE, MP for Maldon.
Members of the team, including director of nursing and deputy chief nursing officer Kelly McGovern, matron Ian Edwards, and trigger response & resuscitation nurses Jane Havelin and Louise Higdon travelled to Westminster to receive their certificate, where they met Ruth May, chief nursing officer for England.
Ian, matron for resuscitation training at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I am so proud of my team for receiving the regional award and am so grateful the trigger response team has been recognised for all their dedication and hard work.”
Kelly said: “This is a wonderful achievement. The trigger response team have played a vital role that ensures our staff know how to provide the best possible care to patients at our hospital, as well as educating the local community on basic life support.”
