A children’s fracture clinic has waved a wand of creativity, transforming it into a magical world inspired by Harry Potter.
The enchanting makeover at Broomfield Hospital is aimed at helping reduce the anxiety of young patients, making their visit a more spellbinding experience over the Christmas period.
When visiting the clinic, children are greeted with owls, goblins, snowmen, magic wands and floating candles, just like in Hogwarts Great Hall.
Helen Gille, Clinical Nurse Specialist for Children’s Orthopaedics, said: “We wanted to create a magical space for young Muggles that sparks joy and wonder, especially for children who might be feeling scared or in pain.
“Seeing their faces light up when they step into our temporary wizarding world has been incredible. And of course, we hope our patients are only here for a short spell.”
Sophia Tame, 13, from Braintree, has been a regular patient at the fracture clinic since she was diagnosed with Perthes’ disease, aged eight. It’s a condition which develops in childhood and affects the hip joint.
She said: “It is really fun and so creative here – I think it’s brilliant. It makes it feel welcoming and fun.”
