Local heroes step up for national challenge to raise £30,000 for hospital
A group of doctors are looking to take on a national challenge to raise money for their local hospital.
With an ambitious goal of raising £30,000 for Broomfield Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED), a group of 14, including several doctors from the hospital, are getting set for the National Three Peaks Challenge.
This self-funded initiative will see them climb the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – all within 36 hours.
They will cover a walking distance of 23 miles and a total climb of 3,064 meters, equivalent to twice the climb of the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
The money raised will fund an additional ultrasound scanner, allowing the ED team to carry out more scans and see patients more quickly.
Dr Ajay Thomas, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Broomfield Hospital, said: The addition of another ultrasound scanner will greatly benefit both our staff and patients, and help us manage the increase in people arriving at our emergency department. We are truly grateful for the community's support in helping us provide even better care.
“The enthusiasm, encouragement, and generous support we are all receiving has made it possible for our team to raise over £11,000 already. With just a few weeks remaining until our Three Peaks Challenge, the team are training well and focused on doing our best to achieve our goal of reaching £30,000.”
