New health centre offering diagnostic tests to open in Southend
Residents in Southend are set to benefit from a new health centre offering diagnostic tests and scans closer to home.
Funding has been awarded for a new community diagnostic centre (CDC) in Southend, offering X-ray, ultrasound, heart and lung tests, and skin tests.
Jonathan Dunk, Chief Commercial Officer at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted that the people of Southend will be able to have tests and scans in a diagnostics centre in the heart of their community. We know it will improve health outcomes and help to reduce waiting times.”
The centre in Southend will complement the services offered in the larger CDC in Pitsea, which will be open to residents across south Essex.
The location of the Southend centre will be agreed in the planning process and it is hoped that it will be up and running by the end of 2024.
The funding announcement is the latest in mid and south Essex, with CDCs in Thurrock, Braintree, and Pitsea already given the green light.
The Southend centre will be run by an independent sector provider, and the process to choose this partner will be run by Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
