New high-tech machine offers ‘better patient experience’

Patients are benefiting from quicker procedures and no longer need to travel for specialist treatment, thanks to new state-of-the-art equipment.
The cutting-edge radiology machine from Philips, gives clearer x-ray images which allows clinicians at Broomfield Hospital to perform more complex and less invasive micro procedures, something they couldn’t previously do.
This includes x-ray and ultrasound imaging of veins and arteries, as well as procedures to shrink enlarged prostates. These less invasive micro procedures only need a small incision, reducing the need for more invasive surgery.
James Currell, Acting Divisional Director, Clinical and Support Services Division at the Trust, explained how this would benefit patients. He said: “This means a shorter stay in hospital for our patients. Incisions aren’t as big, so those having procedures have less discomfort, a faster recovery and a better patient experience.
“Added to that, the machine is in a £315,000 newly refurbished theatre, which is more comfortable, creating a calmer environment.”
Mark Leftwich, Managing Director, Philips UK & Ireland, said: "Our partnership with Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust will bring this state-of-the-art Interventional Radiology suite to life, helping clinicians to deliver faster, more precise, and less invasive treatments for their patients.”
