Orthopaedic department announced as double award winners

Award for orthopaedic department

Hospital staff have won two awards for helping improve the lives of patients.

The orthopaedic team at Basildon Hospital have been given the regional awards by The Royal London Hospital Orthopaedic Trauma Society for Trainer of the Year and Best Department of the Year.

Dimitrios Tsekes, unit training director in orthopaedics, said: “We feel humbled as a team that our efforts have been recognised, and those of the management team who always support us.”

The Society praised how the team worked together through the Covid pandemic and helped patients get back home as quickly as possible.

And Dimitrios received the Trainer of the Year award for training 10 surgeons, who all gave good feedback about their experience at the unit.

He said: “I was very proud to find out I had won this award; it really means a lot and shows how well respected we are as a unit by our peers.”
