Outpatient and visitor advice due to storm Eunice

People are being asked to think carefully before heading to hospital during storm Eunice.

The high winds have affected some of the hospitals in Mid and South Essex, and while all services are still up and running, some changes have had to be made.

Damage to a building means that a different entrance is having to be used for the Emergency Department at Broomfield Hospital, and a road at Basildon Hospital has been temporarily shut.

Chief Operating Officer Andrew Pike said: “We are open for business as usual, but are experiencing some issues because of the bad weather. We are having to use some temporary entrances, and people may be redirected to departments. We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience.”

While the conditions remain bad, people are being asked to stay away from A&E unless they have life threatening conditions.

And although outpatient appointments are still taking place, people may choose to stay safe at home. Andrew said: “We fully understand if people feel it’s safer for them not to come to their outpatient appointment. We’d be grateful if they could let us know, if possible, that they won’t be attending, and we will rebook them as soon as possible.”
