Overseas doctors receive “outstanding” service from hospital award winner
A dedicated member of staff has won an award for the help and guidance she gives to overseas doctors, which has been described as “outstanding” by those that have been a part of the scheme.
Elaine Spall, a medical education administrator, was given the monthly Values Award for her work at Southend Hospital where she leads a programme that gives doctors trained overseas an opportunity to shadow a doctor and experience working in the NHS.
As a result of her hard work, feedback has shown that the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust has gained a reputation of being “outstanding” with trainees, which is no surprise to the person who nominated Elaine, Katie Palmer, medical education manager.
Katie said: “Elaine always does her utmost to ensure that the experience is a positive one, which helps establish the Trust as an employer of choice. She shows respect and support to all her trainees from their application to the start of their placement.
“Several of the applicants are arriving in the UK for the first time and Elaine adapts and anticipates their needs, which may be quite different to someone already living in the UK. She should be very proud of her award, and all she continues to do for the Trust.”
The award is part of a monthly scheme at the Trust, recognising staff who have showcased its values of Excellent, Compassionate and Respectful.
