Radiotherapy team given award for “excellent teaching”
In recognition of training the next generation of radiographers, the Therapeutic Radiotherapy team at Southend Hospital have won the Commended Placement of the Year for Radiography award from a top London university.
The award, part of City University of London’s Practice Excellence Awards, is voted for by the students who are actually on placements. Over the last year 30 students from the university have had their hospital training at Southend.
Radiotherapy student Saha Ug-Khan said: “I’m not surprised that Southend has won this award; it’s an excellent teaching hospital. The staff here are very approachable and friendly. Not only has it given me the skills I need to succeed as a radiographer, but it has really improved my confidence too.”
Such plaudits and recognition have meant an awful lot to Sonya Martin, Radiotherapy Training and Education Advanced Practitioner, and the whole team. She said: “Our radiotherapy team are delighted to be recognised by the students at City University who have been placed with us this past year.
“It has been a challenging year, but the whole team have worked hard to ensure that our students’ learning environment continued successfully throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. The whole department contribute to ensure our students receive the high quality training they deserve and I’m really happy that our staff have received an award for all their hard work and effort.”
