Running shorts raising money in memory of baby daughter
A couple whose daughter died at six days old are giving back to those who supported them at Southend Hospital by launching a special pair of running shorts.
Sam and Pete Goldring, from Leigh-on-Sea, own Happystride, a running and fitness brand, and the pair – who ran to help them cope with their loss – have created the unique ‘Ruby Fly High’ shorts in tribute to their daughter.
Southend Hospital’s Butterfly Suite, a dedicated space for parents who experience the loss of a baby, will receive 10 per cent of each sale of the shorts, which feature gold ruby rings and hearts.
In August 2024, Ruby was born at 32 weeks and faced major complications which led to her transfer from Southend Hospital to the Royal London Hospital. The couple found huge comfort in the support of Southend's Maternity Bereavement Midwife, Amanda Cushing, who helped them create lasting memories with Ruby.
Sam said: “Amanda continues to support us through such a devastating time, so we’re honoured to give back and keep Ruby’s spirit alive with these shorts.”
Pete said: “It will mean so much to see our local community running in them, all whilst raising funds for a cause close to our hearts.”
The ‘Ruby Fly High’ shorts launched on Saturday 12 April and is available to buy from the Happystride website.
