Scooter challenge raises cash in nan’s memory

A six-year-old boy has raised a ‘wheely’ great £150 for a local hospital charity by taking on a 15-mile scooter challenge in memory of his nan.

Luca Westall, from Rayleigh, scooted a mile a day to raise money for Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, to thank staff at Southend Hospital.

Throughout the challenge he was cheered on and supported by his family. Luca said: “It was really fun! I loved getting a doughnut after some of my trips out with my mum.”

Mum, Steph, shared how the idea for the challenge came about. She said: “We’re so proud of what he’s accomplished after being inspired by a family member who had taken on a similar challenge for another charity.”

Clair Dade, Fundraising Coordinator for the charity, praised the young fundraiser’s determination and said: “It’s incredible that Luca has reached his target. His dedication and hard work will make a meaningful difference to Southend Hospital, where his nan received her care.”
