Student midwife in the running for rising star national award

A student midwife has been nominated for a prestigious national award, one of only ten from across the country.

Jacqueline Gray, who is in the third year of her midwifery training at Southend Hospital and Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), has been shortlisted for this year’s Student Nursing Times Awards, which recognises rising stars in the midwifery and nursing professions.

Excited by the nomination, Jacqueline said: “My cohort have become like my lifelong friends. We are all so excited to become midwives and continue looking after women and birthing people and their families like we would our own.”

Annaliese Bradley, Student Lead for Midwifery at Southend Hospital at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Jacqueline's nomination is a testament to her exceptional skills. Her positive attitude and dedication to her fellow students and patients is truly inspiring.”

Carinna Griffiths, Midwifery Lecturer and Jacqueline’s tutor at ARU, said: "Jacqueline has always been a shining star throughout her training. Her positivity, dedication, and commitment to the women and families within her care is admirable. We are all so incredibly proud of her achievements. She will be an asset to Midwifery."

The Trust and ARU are working together to train the next generation of midwives, like Jacqueline, with 56 securing placements at the Trust’s hospitals across Southend, Basildon and Broomfield hospitals.

Winners will be announced on Friday 26 April at an award ceremony in London.
