Support slippers donation is an amazing ‘feet’ for patients
The Friends of Broomfield have donated 150 pairs of non-slip slippers to Broomfield Hospital’s Falls Team to hand out to wards with patients who are more likely to have falls. One in three people over 65 will have at least one fall a year.
These slippers will benefit many older adults at the hospital by providing them with supportive footwear while on the wards.
Carrie Tyler, Falls Improvement Specialist Practitioner, said: “We are so grateful for this donation. As well as helping patients whilst they are on our wards, they’ll also aide recovery at home, especially for those patients who do not have any family or friends to buy new slippers for them.”
The free slippers are already proving to be a great success, with the slippers helping ward patients get more mobile, which means they can hopefully get home much sooner.
Carrie added: “Our patients who have already received new footwear have been delighted with their new footwear, making it safer for them when they are moving and thrilled when they find out they are theirs to keep.”
Falls prevention is an important part of improving outcomes for patients, this is one of a number of initiatives introduced by the Trust to improve patient safety and prevent unnecessary falls while in hospital.
