Switching Intensive Care for intensive running in the London Marathon

Katie Edwards who is running the London Marathon

A member of staff from Broomfield Hospital is swapping scrubs for shorts by running in the TCS London Marathon on Sunday 27 April.

Katie Edwards, from Heybridge, is an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Clinical Facilitation Sister at the hospital, where she has worked for 18 years.

She will be running to raise funds to help create an ICU Garden, an indoor and outdoor space for critically ill patients and their families to find a moment of calm during care.

Katie said: “Caring for critically ill patients and supporting their families is both challenging and fulfilling. Running has become essential to my wellbeing, helping me stay strong both physically and mentally.”

Although she is an experienced marathon runner, this will be Katie’s first London Marathon and she was thrilled to secure the only Mid and South Essex Hospitals charity place.

Katie said: “When I got the email confirming my place, I was overjoyed! It’s an honour to run for the ICU and fulfil a lifelong dream.”
