Thanks is picture-perfect for Clapping Colin
Colin Wilkinson has become a regular sight as you approach Basildon Hospital, and has been clapping ‘thank you’ to dedicated hospital staff since the first lockdown.
He’s now been thanked himself by a local illustrator who has created a piece of artwork showing him clapping a nurse as she drives to the hospital.
Mike Young jogs passed ‘Colin the Clapper’ every morning and decided to illustrate a picture of Colin waving at people outside Basildon Hospital, as a small token of thanks for his continued effort.
Colin, who has been boosting the morale of NHS workers, said: “I was totally surprised and very pleased that someone would do something like that. It really was a nice gesture and made my day.”
On handing the picture over to Colin, Mike, who runs an illustration business called Family Scribbles, told the local clapping icon: “I think what you do is brilliant and spurs me on when I’m running past.”
