Thousands of presents to be delivered to hospital patients on Christmas Day
Patients staying in hospital this Christmas Day will receive a festive boost, thanks to the delivery of 2,500 gifts.
Those unwell and unable to spend Christmas at home will get presents whilst they are staying in Basildon, Broomfield or Southend hospitals.
The gifts, which include puzzles, snacks and toiletries, will be distributed to patients across adult and elderly care wards, spreading some cheer throughout the three hospitals.
Diane Sarkar, Chief Nursing Officer for the Trust, said: "Christmas can be a particularly emotional time for patients who are in hospital, rather than at home with loved ones. These gifts, though small, have a big impact, helping lift spirits and showing patients that they are remembered and supported.
“It’s a wonderful way to bring the magic of Christmas into our hospitals and support patient wellbeing during this time."
The gifts have all been funded by Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, with support from the League of Friends Basildon and Friends at Broomfield, helping boost patient care beyond standard NHS funding.
Clair Grayston, Senior Charity Manager for the Charity, said: "We’re incredibly proud to make the delivery of these gifts to patients possible and create a brighter Christmas for those spending it in hospital. This annual initiative is about bringing joy and a sense of connection, during what can be a difficult time for many."
