Volunteers help improve patient space by sprucing up hospital garden
Volunteers have helped make light work of litter picking and given an outside space a much-needed makeover at Basildon Hospital, to the joy of staff, relatives and patients.
Eight volunteers from the local charity Hearts and Minds, Basildon and District Heart Support group, and hospital staff dedicated a day to refresh the look of Basildon Hospital's Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC) courtyard garden.
The team all got stuck into weeding, clearing rubbish, and re-staining wooden garden furniture.
The revamped courtyard garden now provides a clean and serene space for patients, visitors and staff looking to have a moment of quiet in any otherwise busy hospital.
Tina Preston-Strutt, Specialist Cardiac Rehabilitation Physiotherapist and volunteer with Hearts & Minds, shared her enthusiasm about the project.
She said: “A highlight of the day was meeting a relative of a CTC patient, she was amazed at the difference to the space. It was lovely to see her talking to our volunteers and it made them very proud to be part of the CTC.”
