Walk For Wards pair hope to raise a spook-tacular amount dressed as Ghostbusters
Two local men will be dressing up as Ghostbusters to take part in Walk For Wards, raising money for local hospitals this Sunday (19 September).
The pair are joining around 150 other walkers along the seafront on the 7km jaunt, from Uncle Tom's Cabin in Shoebury along the seafront path to the Chalkwell Shelter, raising money for a Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust ward, department or appeal of their choice.
Wearing the Ghostbusters outfits are Darren McQuade, from South Ockendon, and his friend Luke Garwood, from Southend. Bustin’ makes them feel good, but so does raising money for cancer wards at their local hospitals in Southend and Basildon.
Darren said: “We’ve both known several people affected by cancer, so decided we wanted to help support a ward close to where we live.”
Due to Covid restrictions, the event was unable to be held last year, but is now back walking tall. It is kindly sponsored by Sealife Adventure Southend and people can still take part. Entry is free with a minimum sponsorship of £20.
Elise Fleetwood, fundraising manager for Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, which is organising the event, said: “It’s wonderful to see so many new and returning fundraisers join us in one of our first return events. We’re taking all of the necessary Covid precautions and are ready to welcome everyone taking part, raising money for the ward or department of their choice.”
