Neuro-oncology cancer

The neuro-oncology team support, care and treat adult patients diagnosed with primary brain and central nervous system tumours.

Primary brain and central nervous system tumours are rare, accounting for less than 3% of all adult cancers. Brain tumours can be benign or malignant and occur when a collection of brain cells become abnormal in growth and/or grow out of control. These cells then form a tumour or mass.

In the UK more than 12,000 adults are diagnosed with a brain tumour each year, of which half are cancerous.

What we offer

We are not a specialist neuro surgical hub, therefore we work closely with Queens Hospital neuro surgical centre in Romford which is the main centre for neurosurgery.

Queens form part of the neuro oncology service pathway. Our teams virtually attend the neuro surgical multidisciplinary team meetings every Monday to discuss patients’ needs.

Neuro Oncology Clinics

Basildon clinics are held at Southend Hospital every Monday morning.

Broomfield clinics are held at Broomfield every Thursday morning.

Southend clinics are held at Southend Hospital every Tuesday morning.
